COMA is pleased to announce an expansion of the gallery with the opening of our second space in Chippendale, Sydney. Continuing to commit to an increased focus on catering to the Australian and Asia-Pacific regions this new location will double the footprint of the gallery and allow for alternate forms of programming with ease of access and wide exposure onto the street, as well as additional private viewing opportunities.
“Providing an expanded platform for our artists and collaborators while continuing to grow our program both locally and internationally is something we have felt very strongly about for some time now. This new exhibiting space is the next step in COMA’s mission to ensure that contemporary art in this region is given an appropriate platform to be examined in a broader context.” – Sotiris Sotiriou, Founder
Inaugurating the space will be Nick Modrzewski’s second solo exhibition with COMA, titled ‘Jiggery-Pokery’. Modrzewski will present a new suite of major paintings and sculptural accents that play with language, history and legal fictions. The title of the exhibition derives from the 17th century Scottish phrase, joukery-pawkery, meaning “clever-tickery” or “dishonest manipulation”.
Located at 2/27-39 Abercrombie St, Chippendale, the space has a long history in Australia as an arts venue for the past 15 years. COMA is looking forward to interacting with this fast-growing art and cultural precinct and welcoming visitors from Friday, 9 September, 2022.
