Alongside Young-jun Tak’ solo presentation ‘I need to switch myself’ in the Darlinghurst gallery, the artist has recently had a conversation with Stephanie Bailey for Ocula Magazine.
In the interview Tak states, “I look at my approach as a kind of hijacking. Rather than just throwing stones from outside, it was important for me to see what was going on inside. That’s why I visited these anti-gay spaces. When I first went to meet these people—priests, pastors, and conversion therapists—I literally had cramps. I experienced physical stress because I voluntarily entered a zone where I could be attacked and had to be prepared to fight back.”
