A reclined, half-floating mermaid spits out fire as she lets out a deep yawn. The spill of orange pigment splits the canvas like a wound or scar, stitched together post-surgery, revealing another layer of skin that
conceals a past life, only traceable by the outline of her feet in the far right corner. In this work everything is buoyant: theblack fog behind the mermaid, the glitteron the surface of the paint, the twistedand interwoven lines, the red lips suckingon a pipe and a mock pinching match inthe top right corner. Each one of these affairs directs momentum to the right, as if everything is swept up with the force of her yawn.
