You Jin in his studio, Beijing, China, 2024
Mixed and chaotic spatial arrangements are a new medium between people and society, a form of linkage between people and the outer world.
You Jin (b. 1979, Shenyang, China) is best known for his highly-saturated canvases which are a riot of near- psychedelic colour and line. In an era of accelerated digitalization, his painting practice builds a new visual language by superposing, breaking down, and reconstructing existing images. By prudently observing and refining simple geometric shapes, he conducts dynamic forms in space — shapes that reflect the fragmented structures of cities and Kandinsky-esque ways of thinking, as well as a microcosm of the multiple realities we currently inhabit. In his creative process, You Jin pursues a unique fusion of the observational methods of Eastern and Western thinking, philosophy, and theory. With realism as a starting point, he engages in broad- based contemplation of the changes in the world, which provides endless possibilities for the art he creates.
You Jin has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world, including solos at Tang Contemporary Art, Hong Kong, 2023; 68 Projects, Berlin, 2021; Alternative Space Loop, Seoul, Korea, 2016; Opera Gallery, Geneva, 2013; group presentations at ShanShang Art Museum, Dalian, 2022; Blanc Art Center, Xiamen, 2022; Cang Art Museum, Hangzhou, 2022; One Art Museum, Beijing, 2022; MoCA Shanghai, Shanghai, 2022; AYE Gallery, Beijing, 2019 and many others. You Jin lives and works in Beijing, China.
